Born on July 28, 1949 in Mansfield, Louisiana, Vida Blue (Vida Rochelle Blue) played for the Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals over the course of his 17 year career. Blue broke into the bigs on July 20, 1969 with the Oakland Athletics, and put up a 1.82 ERA in 312 innings pitched in 1971, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Vida Blue's best season was 1971, when he posted a 1.82 ERA, won 24 games and struck out 301 batters.
