The system isn"t working. You can get a really good team for $100 million. For $200 million the Yankees should have a great team with no flaws and no weaknesses. But they have no depth and very few arms that they can rely on. If the team was built correctly they would have better players than Melky Cabrera and Bubba Crosby to come in off the bench to fill in for Sheffield and Matsui. There"s a chance they can put together something to get Bobby Abreu, but it"s not very likely at all. They have nothing left to give. They win the division title every year, but they get less bang for their buck than any other team in baseball.
