Sammy Sosa (Samuel Peralta Sosa) was born on November 12, 1968 in San Pedro de Macoris, Macoris (Dominican Republic). He made his Major League debut on June 16, 1989 for the Texas Rangers. In 1989, his rookie year, he hit .257 with 4 home runs and 13 RBI. Sosa played for the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs,Baltimore Orioles, and Texas Rangers over the course of his 18 year career.
There is some disagreement on what was Sammy Sosa's most productive season. Some believe that it was 2001, when he slugged 64 home runs, hit for a .328 average and knocked in 160 runs. However, others believe that it was 1998, when he slugged 66 home runs, hit for a .308 average and knocked in 158 runs.
