Biography[]

Ryan F. Garko is the first baseman for the Cleveland Indians.

Garko attended Servite High School in Walnut, California, where he and Indians farmhand Ben Francisco were teammates.

From 2000-03, Garko was the catcher for the Stanford University Cardinal. Garko went undrafted after his junior year of college, and remained at Stanford for his senior year. After a good performance during the College World Series, Garko was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 3rd round in June 2003.

Although Garko was drafted as a catcher, in the middle of 2005, the Indians organization began converting Garko to a first baseman.

In September 2005, Garko made his major league debut, making a pinch-hit appearance against the Kansas City Royals. He had only one Major League at-bat in 2005, during which he struck out.

The 2006 season found Garko back with the Buffalo Bisons (AAA), but after first basemen Eduardo Perez and Ben Broussard were traded to the Seattle Mariners, Garko was called up in July 2006, and finished out the season with the Indians.

Garko did not have a guaranteed spot on the 25-man roster in 2007, and only made the team in the last week of spring training.
