Richie Ashburn (Don Richard Ashburn) was born on March 19, 1927 in Tilden, Nebraska. He made his Major League debut on April 20, 1948 for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1948, his rookie year, he hit .333 with 2 home runs and 40 RBI. Ashburn played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs and New York Mets over the course of his 15 year career.
Most people believe that Richie Ashburn's best season was 1951, when he stole 29 bases, hit for a .344 average and knocked in 63 runs.
