  • Notre Dame beats Army, 13-7, at the Polo Grounds in New York. Following the game, New York sportswriter Grantland Rice coins the nickname the Four Horsemen for the Irish's backfield of quarterback Harry Stuhldreher, left halfback Jim Crowley, right halfback Don Miller, and fullback Elmer Layden.
