Transactions[]
Selected by Kansas City Royals in the 10th round of the free-agent draft (June 3, 1991 - signed July 22, 1991).
Signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics (February 10, 2008).
Trivia[]
Sweeney is fluent in Spanish.
Had Sweeney not been ejected in that game against the Detroit Tigers on August 10, 2001, (his first career ejection) after charging pitcher Jeff Weaver in the sixth inning, he would've kept his streak of playing 171 consecutive games alive.
