Born on July 7, 1973 in Tampa, Florida, Matt Mantei (Matthew Bruce Mantei) played for the Florida Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 10 year career. Mantei broke into the bigs on June 18, 1995 with the Florida Marlins, and put up a 2.96 ERA in 54.2 innings pitched in 1998, his rookie year.
There is some disagreement on what was Matt Mantei's most productive season. Some believe that it was 2003, when he posted a 2.62 ERA, notched 29 saves and struck out 68 batters. However, others believe that it was 1999, when he posted a 2.76 ERA, notched 32 saves and struck out 99 batters.
