Biography[]

Luis Emilio Gonzalez was born on September 3, 1967 in Tampa, Florida. He made his Major League debut on September 4, 1990 for the Houston Astros. In 1991, his rookie year, he hit .254 with 13 home runs and 69 RBI. Gonzalez played for the Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks over the course of his 17 year career.

Although Gonzalez was an infielder at the University of South Alabama under former Eddie Stanky protege Steve Kittrell, the Astros converted him to the outfield.

Most people believe that Luis Gonzalez's best season was 2001, when he slugged 57 home runs, hit for a .325 average and knocked in 142 runs.

Trivia[]

Gonzalez formerly owned and operated a restaurant called Gonzo's, located in oldtown/downtown Gilbert, Arizona. It then changed name several times, and as of March, 2007, it is called "The Grain Belt".
Gonzalez is a prominent member of the U.S. Republican Party. As a resident of Arizona, he wrote a letter of endorsement for Arizona's Junior Senator, Jon Kyl, who won his bid for re-election in 2006.
