Biography [ ] Born on March 9, 1893 in Aurora, Missouri, Lefty Williams (Claude Preston Williams) played for the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 7 year career. Williams broke into the bigs on September 17, 1913 with the Detroit Tigers , and put up a 2.89 ERA in 224.1 innings pitched in 1916, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Lefty Williams's best season was 1919 , when he posted a 2.64 ERA, won 23 games and struck out 125 batters.
