Born on March 6, 1900 in Lonaconing, Maryland, Lefty Grove (Robert Moses Grove) played for the Philadelphia Athletics and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 17 year career. Grove broke into the bigs on April 14, 1925 with the Philadelphia Athletics, and put up a 4.75 ERA in 197 innings pitched in 1925, his rookie year.
There is some disagreement on what was Lefty Grove's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1930, when he posted a 2.54 ERA, won 28 games and struck out 209 batters. However, others believe that it was 1931, when he posted a 2.06 ERA, won 31 games and struck out 175 batters.
