Biography[]

Larry Doby (Lawrence Eugene Doby) was born on December 13, 1923 in Camden, South Carolina. He made his Major League debut on July 5, 1947 for the Cleveland Indians. In 1948, his rookie year, he hit .301 with 14 home runs and 66 RBI. Doby played for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 13 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Larry Doby's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1954, when he slugged 32 home runs and knocked in 126 runs. However, others believe that it was 1950, when he slugged 25 home runs, hit for a .326 average and knocked in 102 runs.
