Jorge Cantu (Jorge Luis (Guzman) Cantu) was born on January 30, 1982 in McAllen, Texas. He made his Major League debut on July 17, 2004 for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In 2004, his rookie year, he hit .301 with 2 home runs and 17 RBI. Cantu has played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Cincinnati Reds, and Florida Marlins for his entire 4 year career.
In 2005, CantĂș began the season expecting to play a utilityman role, but due to the retirement of second baseman Roberto Alomar, he was forced into a full time position. He took the opportunity to showcase his talents, being named the Devil Rays Most Valuable Player by Tampa Bay sportswriters, after hitting .289 with 28 home runs, 117 RBI, 40 doubles, and 171 hits in 150 games (80 at second base, 63 at third).
