Jason Michael Hirsh was born 02/20/1982 in Santa Monica, California. He attended and graduated from St. Francis High School, but since he threw only in the high eighties, he went undrafted and ended up at Division III school Cal Lutheran. Hirsh compiled a 26-6 record with a 2.96 ERA, and graduated with a degree in multimedia. He was taken with the Houston Astros' top pick (second round, 59th overall) in the 2003 amateur entry draft and signed for $625,000. He made his major-league debut in 2006 and saw limited action as a starter, going 3-4 with a 6.04 ERA in 9 games started for Houston.
After the 2006 season, Hirsh was traded to Colorado as part of a package including CF Willy Taveras and RHP Taylor Buchholz, in return for starter Jason Jennings. He emerged as the number-four starter out of spring training and to date has gone 3-6 with a 4.78 ERA in Colorado's rotation. He resides in Burbank, California during the offseason and also works for the San Diego Chargers football team.
