Biography[]
Jonathan Clay "J.J." Redick (born June 24, 1984 in Cookeville, Tennessee) is an American professional basketball player at the shooting guard position. He was selected 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2006 NBA Draft. During his collegiate years, Redick played for Duke University. Duke retired his jersey on February 4, 2007.
Redick is known for his accurate free throw and three-point shooting. He set ACC records for most consecutive free throws made, and most career ACC tournament points; and set several Duke records, including most points in a single season. He formerly held the record for the most ACC career points, but was surpassed by Tyler Hansbrough of UNC on March 19, 2009.
High School[]
A McDonald's All-America selection in 2002 (one of four to sign with Duke), J.J. became one of more recognized players growing up during high school. Playing for Cave Spring (Roanoke, Virginia), he became decorated with awards early. He was named the Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year three times, but it wasn't until 2002 when it marked Redick as one of the best basketball recruits in his year. In his third year in college, J.J. Redick enjoyed one of the finest individual seasons in Duke history. He was named the 2005 Rupp National Player of the Year. He was a unanimous first team All-America selection and named first team All-America by AP, USBWA, NABC, The Sporting News, ESPN.com, SI.com, Rupp, Basketball Times, and Collegeinsider.com, among others.
