General Overview

Throughout ArmchairGM, there are two basic types of news and opinions feeds.

Type 1

On every team home page and player page, you will see a news feed and opinions feed that looks something like this:

Opinions

good stuff  RSS.gif new stuff  RSS.gif

<ListPages> category=ListPages Opinions order=PublishedDate Published=Yes Level=3 count=6 </ListPages>

<ListPages> category=ListPages Opinions order=new count=6 </ListPages>

(how does this work?)  |  (write an opinion!)  |  (more opinions)

News

good stuff  RSS.gif new stuff  RSS.gif

<ListPages> category=ListPages News Published=Yes order=PublishedDate Level = 3 count=6 </ListPages>

<ListPages> category=ListPages News order=new count=6 </ListPages>

(how does this work?)  |  (write a news article!)  |  (more news)

These lists are automatically generated and display links to opinions and news articles that have been recently edited or has received the most votes. However, each list is category specific, meaning the list will only display links to those opinions and news articles that have been included in that category.

For example, the lists on the New York Mets page will only display opinions that have been added into the New York Mets Opinions Category and will only display news articles that have been added to the New York Mets News Category.

Similarly, the lists on the Jose Reyes page will only include opinions that have been added into the Jose Reyes Opinions Category and news articles that have been added into the Jose Reyes News Category.

Your job is simple: any news or opinion article you write need to be included with all relevant categories (see below to learn how to categorize pages).

Type 2

On many pages throughout ArmchairGM, including the main and each sport's main page, you will see a news feed and opinions feed that looks something like this:

front page stories

<ListPages> order=Score category=ListPages count=10 </ListPages>

recently updated pages

<ListPages> order=LastEdit category=ListPages count=5 </ListPages>

recently added pages

<ListPages> order=New category=ListPages count=5 </ListPages>

These lists are automatically generated and display links to opinions and news articles that have been recently edited, recently added, or has reached a score high enough to become a front page story. However, each list is category specific, meaning the list will only display links to those opinions and news articles that have been included in that category.

For example, the lists on the MLB page will only display opinions that have been added into the MLB Opinions Category and will only display news articles that have been added to the MLB News Category.

Similarly, the lists on the Category:New York Mets Opinions page will only include opinions that have been added into the New York Mets Opinions Category and the lists on the Category:New York Mets News page will only include opinions that have been added into the New York Mets News Category.

Your job is simple: any news or opinion article you write need to be included with all relevant categories (see below to learn how to categorize pages).

Help Us Categorize Pages

To efficiently sort pages on ArmchairGM, any news or opinion article you write need to be included with all relevant categories.

To add a page to a category, insert the link

[[Category:category name]]

to that page. For example, let's say you wrote a news article discussing Billy Wagner signing with the Mets. On that page, you should put:

[[Category: MLB News]]
[[Category: New York Mets News]]
[[Category: Billy Wagner News]]

and any other categories you believe are relevant. To learn more about how to use categories, click here.

That's it! We will take care of the rest. For example, since you have included your article in the New York Mets News Category, a link to it will automatically display in the "most votes news" and "recently edited news" on the New York Mets page (provided that it has the most votes or has been recently edited). Similarly, it will automatically be displayed in the "recently added," "recently edited" or "front page stories" on the Category: New York Mets News page.

Similarly, if you had written an opinion article discussing your take on the signing, you would use the same tags as above, simply replacing "News" with "Opinions," and your article would be put into the same-named opinion feeds.

Note that tyopgraphical errors and other mistakes in the above process will prevent articles from being added to the proper feed.
