Biography[]
Garrett Bernard Atkins was born 12/12/1979 in Orange, California, and grew up in nearby Irvine. He attended University High School, where he played baseball for the Trojans and graduated in 1997. He was drafted by the New York Mets out of high school, but elected to attend college instead. After being recruited by Oklahoma State, USC, Pepperdine, Cal State Fullerton, and UCLA, Atkins chose UCLA and became the first three-time All-American in Bruins history. He majored in sociology and played both first base and third. He was again drafted in 2000, this time by the Colorado Rockies, and moved into the process of reaching the majors, making his debut in August 2003.
Atkins' parents are Ron and Diana, and he has a younger sister, Kristan. He is single and resides in Denver, Colorado during the offseason.
Most people believe that Garrett Atkins's best season was 2006, when he slugged 29 home runs, hit for a .329 average and knocked in 120 runs.

Trivia[]
- Atkins shares the longest hitting streak by any Major League rookie and any Rockie in 2005 (16 games).
- When they were both with the Rockies, Atkins lived with teammate Matt Holliday and family during spring training, even serving as babysitter to Holliday's two young sons.
- Atkins was also college roommates with Chase Utley of the Philadelphia Phillies and they still remain close friends.
- One of Atkins' main interests is golf.
