Biography[]

2005 season[]

The Arizona Diamondbacks considered drafting Hansen with the number 1 overall pick in the draft, but opted to go another route because of signability questions. The Red Sox convinced him to sign with a $4.4 million major league contract. Despite being shut down for a time in September, he still managed to make his big league debut in the year that he was drafted. He is nearly ready to be able to compete in the major leagues right now.

Scouting Report[]

Pitching
Hansen has the stuff and the make-up to be a big league closer. His fastball sits at 93-95 and has natural sinking motion. He can take it up to 97 when needed. His slider, called the best breaking pitch in the 2005 draft, is a mid-80's pitch that Baseball America says is "allergic to bats".
