Carpenter broke into the bigs on May 12, 1997 with the Toronto Blue Jays, and put up a 5.09 ERA in 81.1 innings pitched in 1997, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Chris Carpenter's best season was 2005, when he posted a 2.83 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 213 batters.
Scouting Report[]
Finally lived up to potential in 2004 and 2005. 93-95 mph 4 seam fastball—91-93 two seamer than runs into right-handed batters. Picture perfect 12-6 curveball that locks hitters hands and causes hitters to chase. Throws a mid-80's cutter that bores in on left-handers and then drops off to table with late action. Great command of the strike-zone. Can work deep into games and seems to get better as the game progresses.
