Biography
William Hall was born on December 28, 1979 in Nettleton, Mississippi and is a center fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers. Hall began his career as a utility infielder, but after a breakout season in 2006, he was moved into the lineup full time because the infield positions were already filled by the Brewers' other young prospects.
Hall was drafted by the Brewers in the 6th round with the 176th overall pick in the 1998 June draft. As a minor leaguer, Hall did not put up terrific statistics. His best season was in 2001, when he spent time in both High A and Double-A. He batted .289 with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs. He was a September call-up in 2002 and finally made his major league debut on September 1, 2002. He spent time between Triple-A and the majors again in 2003 before being called up for good for the 2004 season.
2004
Hall played in 126 games and batted just .238 with nine homers and 53 runs batted in, spending time mostly as a utility infielder.
2005
Hall stayed in the utility infielder role and improved tremendously. He batted .291 with 17 home runs and 62 runs batted in, causing many people to call for Hall to be inserted into a starting role for 2006.
2006
Hall was rewarded by being given a platoon role at third base. He would share duties with Corey Koskie, where Hall would play when the Brewers were facing a left-handed pitcher and Koskie when they faced a right-handed pitcher.
After J.J. Hardy was lost for the season with an ankle injury, Hall was given starting shortstop duties and responded by hitting 35 home runs and driving in 85 RBIs.
On Mother's Day, Hall hit a walk-off home run against the New York Mets using a special Mother's Day pink bat with his mother in the stands. The bat was later auctioned, only to be bought by Brewers' owner Mark Attanasio for $25,000 as a gift for Hall's mother.
2007
Hall began the season on a slump as the Brewers jumped into first place in the NL Central. His batting average dipped as low as .250 on June 8. A month later, Hall raised it 20 points to .271 but was sprained his ankle after leaping for a catch at the wall on July 5. Through July 5, Hall had hit nine home runs with 38 runs batted in.
Scouting Report
Hall has above average power and is a very good fielder. After the move to center field, Hall struggled at first but adjusted quickly. Despite his power at the plate, Hall is prone to the strikeout.
