Let's see, this was an interesting weekend. Rick Majerus and Dana Jacobs kept their mouths shut, Tiger Woods inched one step closer to the Golden Bear, Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova won their respective titles in the Australian Open, the South beat the North in the Senior Bowl, UConn beat up Indiana in Bloomington and Georgetown " cheated " their way to a win at Pitt. Also on the hardwood, Kentucky struggled but managed to get by South Carolina (wonder if Ashley Judd was there) and Kansas basically told Nebraska to "stick to football" as they Rockchalked their way over the Cornhuskerdoos.

Oh... there was also a sighting of a boot. Or lack thereof as far as Tom Brady and the Patriots (who are a 12 point favorite) are concerned. Also this weekend, Michigan State showed Michigan a thing or two about basketball in East Lansing and there was a proposal on the ice. Speaking of ice, there was a pretty good hockey game on frozen pond in Atlanta and one of the home team's players, Marian Housa, got in the scoring column, while the other hometown player,  Ilya Kovalchuk, got an assist and almost dented the twine himself. The NHL also took the time to honor Willie Oree, who lived in a time where the only color on the ice was white, suiting up for the Boston Bruins and even had a try at pro baseball with the Milwaukee Braves.

It was a pretty calm weekend. Now the real fun begins. The NHL gets back in gear Tuesday night and for those of you that have Versus on your cable systems, they're doing back to back doubleheaders on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Texas and Texas A&M tip off in Big Twelve action Wednesday night. Before you know it, it'll be spring training (and I'll post the Cactus/Grapefruit League schedule on another posting) and then March Madness and Play Ball!

Oh... there is one more thing (as Columbo would say). There's this football game going on Sunday in Arizona. It's either watch it, watch the Victoria's Secrets models play or watch Puppy Bowl IV.

Enjoy the week!
