Trivia[]
- Oakland reliever Darold Knowles became the only pitcher to appear in every game of a seven-game World Series.
- The Mets had the lowest winning percentage of any team to ever play in a World Series. They had only the ninth-best record in the 24-team majors behind Oakland, the Cincinnati Reds (who they beat in the NLCS), Baltimore Orioles (who was defeated by Oakland in the ALCS), Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals (none of whom made the postseason).
- Willie Mays would record his final hit of his career in Game 2.
