The UCLA Bruins won their fifth consecutive National Championship, defeating Villanova 68-62 in the championship game.

After the tournament was over, both Villanova and Western Kentucky were found by the NCAA to be using ineligible players (including the Most Outstanding Player, Villanova's Howard Porter). Officially, neither team is credited for their result by the NCAA, nor is Porter acknowledged as for his award.1
