The 1950 World Series matched the defending champion New York Yankees against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies, a particularly young team which came to be known as the "Whiz Kids", had won the National League pennant in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season to garner their second pennant - their first in 35 years. Unfortunately, their Cinderella story ended there as the Bombers easily overwhelmed the Phils' worn-out pitching staff. The Yankees swept the Series in four games for their second consecutive championship, and their 13th overall.
